RED Travel Mexico leverages corporate partnership to benefit social and conservation organizations in Northwest Mexico

This February RED hosted a group of employees from Lush Cosmetics on one of its signature Conservation Adventures in Magdalena Bay, in the state of Baja California Sur, Mexico. The event, running for the third consecutive year, brings together Lush employees from across Canada and the US to work alongside one their Charity Pot recipients, RED’s nonprofit arm RED Turismo Sustentable. The trip gives Lush employees, from retail, manufacturing and executive offices, the chance to come together in a natural setting to experience the larger impact of their company in a natural environment far from the home offices of Toronto, Vancouver, and the retail outlets in North America.

The partnership between RED goes far beyond the trips to Magdalena Bay. For the third consecutive year, Lush has financed the participation of regional youth in RED’s academic programs in Magdalena, giving students hands on experience in scientific method and research, sea turtles, whales, dunes and mangroves. RED’s funding has also supported the development of a pilot educational program in the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere, and an Urban Guide training program for women in La Paz with limited access to economic opportunities.

LUSH-Cosmetics-Urban-Guides-La-Paz-City-tourRED’s partnership with Lush demonstrates how tourism can effectively serve as a platform for generating positive social impact and support for conservation. Following the February outing to Magdalena Bay, RED invited the group from Lush to participate in an urban water harvesting project with the nonprofit group Raiz de Fondo. The interaction led to a rich interaction between the three organizations, and a commitment from Lush to fund Raiz del Fondo through its Charity Pot. RED looks forward to continuing its relationship with Lush, and invites other corporations to rise to the challenge of sustainability
